    Es ist das größte je angefertigte Foto von Köln und das fünftgrößte Foto der Welt. Mit ihrem acht Gigapixel großen Foto von der Domstadt zeigen die MSH AND MORE Werbeagentur GmbH (http://msh.net) und thinking pixels mediendesign (http://thinkingpixels.com), was mit moderner Fototechnologie machbar ist.
    Das Cologne-8-Gigapixels-Foto besteht aus 600 Einzelaufnahmen, die André M. Hünseler, Foto- und Mediendesigner von thinking pixels, vom Dach des Kölner Herkules-Hochhauses aus geschossen hat. Die Fotos hat Hünseler anschließend am Computer zu einem 15 km breiten und 10 km tiefen Kölnpanorama zusammengesetzt. Mit einer Auflösung von acht Gigapixeln oder 171.800 x 46.600 Bildpunkten ist das Foto ca. 1.000 Mal größer als Bilder, die handelsübliche Digitalkameras erzeugen. Die Rechenzeit für das Stitching betrug 3,5 Tage, das fertige Bild ist als Photoshop-Datei ca. 20 GB groß.

    Das Cologne-8-Gigapixels-Foto ist mehr als fünf Mal so groß wie das weltweit bekannte Foto von Obama's Inauguration Day (1,5 Gigapixel) und auf Platz fünf der größten Fotos der Welt.
