Born in Jakarta, Indonesia in 1973 and lived there before coming to Australia. Throughout the past 14 years i have accomplished many musical achievements of International standard. From the age of 12, I began learning Traditional Indonesian Music from West Java and Bali, widely known as Gamelan. I specialised in the percussive instrument called Kendang and by the time he was 17, he was playing Kendang professionally. From learning Kendang, Deva Permana became interested in learning Western drums and any other percussion arround the world as a rhythm collector, and was also playing and recording professionally at the age of 17. In 1995 i was offered a Cross-cultural scholarship at the Australian Institute of Music in Sydney, and also at age 25 I've been receiving a credit in the one of the Australian music history book called "Australia Exploring The Musical Landscape" In 1997 published as a joint project of the Australian Music Centre and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Also in the same year and again in 2000 i came as a runner up in the Australian Billy Hyde Open Drum Play-Off, and also came first in the same competition in 2001. Upon his arrival in Sydney, i joined and formed various Jazz, Pop, Electronic and World Music groups playing around Australia. Recently been playing with International Legendary Jazz Artists Alex Acuna, Airto Moreira, Abraham Laboriel Sr, Oscar Castro Neves, Don Grusin, Gary Meeks, and Brazilian singer Katia Moraes at JAZZ at The Domain early January 2007. And also few concerts and tours with former Australian Idol Cosima De Vito, Courtney Act,& Jessica Mauboy, gigging with Fusion band GapProject, 9pc Horns Band DrFeelgood, The Superheroes, Soul singer Peter Morgan, jazz singer Lily Dior, and many more. I have also been involved in and lead Indonesian Traditional music workshops in High Schools, Primary Schools, Kindegarten, with Percussive Arts Society, social communities activities and many Music Academies under Australia Art Centre Umbrella, Direction in Music, also Musica Viva in Schools program. My main passion since coming to Australia has been educating, introducing, and sharing to the people about Indonesian music and cultures also fusing Western and Indonesian music together, bridging Indonesian culture especially with Australia beside learning many kind of music styles and resources in Australia. I use Yamaha Drum System.
