Piano Great Martin StadtfeldHe is young, sensitive and successful. German pianist Martin Stadtfeld started out early, giving his debut concert at the age of just nine. Since then, he's built up an international reputation with his unique and very expressive interpretations. How would you describe your personality? "I'm quite introverted - when I play too. Even during concerts I retreat deep into myself. That's my biggest trait. I'm also quite serious. But I like to have fun too." Who's your personal hero? "My personal hero? I have lots. One of them is Bach, another is Mozart." What's a temptation you can't resist? "An irresistable temptation for me is beautiful music and a glass of really good red wine." Do you have a philosophy? "I'm not really the type for philosophies. What I have learned is that you have to follow yourself, your inner sense. I think there are worse paths to follow." Do you have an unfulfilled dream? "No, I'm already living my dream by being a pianist - that's all I've wanted since I was six. I'm excited about the future, but my big dream is already a reality." What drives you bananas? "Ignorance. Ignorance coupled with arrogance and stupidity... a stupidity which doesn't encourage someone to become more intelligent." What would your perfect day look like? "My perfect day is fortunately something I get to live most of the time, because I work freelance. I like to start out relaxed, with a cup of coffee, check my e-mail, then gradually get down to my music. Maybe a nice meal in the evening. That would be my perfect day."
