She tells us how ‘exciting’ it is to be at the ceremony and how she loved Kings of Leon and Coldplay’s performances. ‘Every time I hear Chris Martin sing I start welling up.’

A giggling Sarah Harding says ‘we’re ecstatic!’ Cheryl Cole adds ‘it all seems a bit surreal at the minute to be honest, I mean we’ve been doing this for 7 years now so this is the cherry on the cake.’ They loved watching the Kings of Leon, Take That and the Ting Tings and laugh off rumours that they’re finding it hard to stick together.

He is joined by ex-Damage singer Jade Jones to serenade us with a medley of songs (a pleasure we were treated to at the Nokia 5800 phone launch!) and told our presenter ‘you’re my fetish, all I do is dream about you but I’m all dressed in rubber.’ The conversation soon turns to French, the language of love, but the subject matter stays suitably smutty! Menage-a-trois anyone?

Scooping two awards for best international group and album, they’re thankful to us Brits for loving them so much. ‘Everything about this band is owed to the British fans. American record labels would have given up on us by now,’ says front man Caleb. And for the time being, they’re just going to ‘enjoy the moment and get our trophies drunk tonight.’

Now playingNew episodeA visibly nervous Florence Welch, of Florence and the Machine, tells t5m ‘I’ve been trying not to get drunk before I accepted my award but I still managed to burst into tears as soon as I got off stage. Florence won the Critics’ Choice award – the prize scooped by Adele last year, but doesn’t know what the year ahead will bring. ‘Who knows what will happen.’ But, finding the BRITs all ‘quite surreal,’ she is determined to enjoy it. ‘I’ve been so nervous but I think I might go and try to have some fun.’
Justin Hawkins on Pet Shop Boys

It’s 25 years since Pet Shop Boys had their hit with West End Girls, and last night at the BRITs they picked up the award for Outstanding Contribution to Music.
Now playingNew episodet5m catches a minute on the red carpet with the legend that is David Hasselhoff. ‘A lot of my friends are here’ he tells us, ‘sometimes I can get closer to them here than I can in America.’ In town to present the best British Group award, the Hoff wrongly predicted that Girls Aloud or Coldplay would scoop the award. ‘I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be Coldplay.’ In fact, it was Elbow!
Lionel Richie presents Best International Female

In our backstage interview, he tells t5m of his great friendship with David Hasselhoff, ‘we’ve known each other for a very long time,’ and how he likes to come to award shows to ‘hang out’ with other superstars like U2. Lionel also has an album out on March 16th that features talent like Ne-Yo and Akon. ‘I said OK you’re Lionel Richie 2009 – what does he sound like? And I let them write the song. That’s what album’s about.’ Sounds like a bit of a get-out clause to us!
The Ting Tings perform at the BRITs with Estelle
Now playingNew episode‘Performing’s what it’s about for us’, say the Ting Tings on the red carpet at the BRIT Awards 2009. ‘We’re so in our element, being creative and trying to get the collaboration right’. The band were performing at the awards with nominee Estelle, collaborating on their hits including American Boy and That’s Not My Name.
