  • Discover Germany | Recommended - Three Tips for a Trip to Nuremberg

Discover Germany | Recommended - Three Tips for a Trip to NurembergNow playingNew episode

Nuremberg has an array of locations to tempt any visitor.Johannes Volkmann showed Discover Germany three of his favourite places that typify life in the city. See for yourself! On the border of the historic old town lies a real gem, tucked away on one of the most beautiful squares in town. It's the Wanderer Café. The second recommendation lies on the outskirts of Nuremberg. It's Knoblauchsland (or Garlic Country), the largest contiguous vegetable plantation in Germany. You can get there easily from the city center using public transport. And there's the Almoshof Castle. The patrician villa from the 17th century lies like a shady oasis between the fields. Original Frankonian beer is served in the garden. For the final act, the third recommendation is the Bernsteinzimmer, a project gallery and an unusual art venue. Because here there aren't just exhibits. There are also concerts, readings and radio broadcasts. Visitors are especially welcome. Right next door, and typical of Nuremberg, is the idyllic terrace with a view of the Pegnitz. Now for the reprise: Johannes Volkmann's Nuremberg recommendations are: the Wanderer Café Knoblauchsland and Almoshof Castle and the Bernsteinzimmer Gallery

Franziska Fennert, a 26-year-old artist, has three tips for a successful tour around the city of Dresden: a stroll through the trendy district of Neustadt, an excursion with the oldest hillside suspension railway to the Dresden-Loschwitz residential area and a break at the Purobeach Bar with a view of the Elbe. Fennert enjoys the cultural events that Dresden has to offer, as well as the international flair in the air. The Neustadt boasts a lively scene, what the young artist calls a "melting pot" for young people, with numerous clubs and concerts to choose from. The suspension railway winding up over the Elbe River valley gives visitors an incredible view of Dresden. And to cool off a bit, visitors can hit the beach bar for a day of rest and relaxation. • Discover Germany | Recommended - Three Tips for a Trip to Saarbrücken

Discover Germany | Recommended - Three Tips for a Trip to SaarbrückenNow playingNew episode

DJ Sascha Stroschke, better known as DJ Curly Buuh, takes us first to the Neuwieser Viertel, one of the few areas of Saarbrücken not to have been destroyed in World War Two. The narrow streets of the late 19th-century quarter are perfect for strolling, and there are plenty of cafés to tempt you. With its many shops, the district really does feel like a village within a town."Die Winzer", or "The Vintners" is Sascha's second tip. It's a place where you can by antiques and works of art, as well as sample some delectable wines. His last tip is the art silo, a former grain silo on the banks of a dead tributary of the River Saar. It has galleries, a temporary movie theater and studios on nine floors, where visitors can watch artists at work, or enjoy exhibitions, films and video art. And at weekends, the art silo is transformed into a salon, where you can begin the evening in typical chilled out Saarbrücken fashion. And with any luck, it'll be Sascha Stroschke, alias DJ Curly Buuh working the decks.
