This clip was originally recorded on VHS videotape from a Channel 8 Singapore Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) Chinese television serial entitled "Breaking Point" (暴风边缘) broadcast circa 1988. It featured popular actors Li Nanxing, Chen Hanwei and Lin Yisheng. This particular episode caused howls of disgust to be heard emanating from many homes while it was being aired during a primetime slot at night and spawned a flurry of letters of complaint to the press soon after. These signs were indicative of public attitudes towards any portrayal of homosexuality on television, even if in a negative light, at the time. Public opinion and censorship guidelines have experienced a sea change since that era when homosexuals were almost invariably depicted as effeminate, lecherous perverts.
